Medical Emergencies For a Medical Emergency/Life Threatening Injury: • Notify the school office/nurse immediately for on-site assistance. • Allow the office to make emergency calls and give your full attention to the victim(s). • If no response, or delayed response, call 911 and notify the office as soon as possible, (Fire and Police always confirm 911 calls with the office. Services may be delayed if the office cannot confirm the emergency). • Do not attempt to move a person who is ill or injured unless they are in immediate danger of further injury. • Check breathing. Is airway clear? Is victim in a position to facilitate breathing? • Help stop bleeding. Pressure on wound or elevation of wound may help stop or slow bleeding. • Protect yourself from bodily fluids (use gloves if available). • Comfort the victim(s) and reassure them that medical attention is on the way. • After the victim’s immediate needs have been taken care of, remain to assist medical services with pertinent information about the incident. Non-Emergency Plan: • For all non-life threatening illnesses and injuries call the office/nurse. Return to Emergency Procedures.
